Jaap Stam
Stam became the most expensive Dutch football player and defender in the history of the game in 1998 as he transferred to Manchester United. His debut season at Manchester United emerged him as one of the finest defenders in the premiership. His outstanding defensive display’s helped United win the treble (Premiership, FA Cup, Champions League). In total he played 80 times for United during his three seasons spent at Old Trafford.

 

Dwight Yorke
After spending nine seasons in the Midlands, playing for Aston Villa, Yorke moved to Manchester United for a staggering £12.6 million. His four year spell at Old Trafford at ended in 2002 as he was playing a small role with the club. In total his statistics at the club are impressive, scoring 47 goals in his 95 appearances for the club. His greatest season at Old Trafford was the 99-2000 campaign; he scored twenty premiership goals which resulted in him being the third top scorer in the premier league.

 

Ruud Van Nistelrooy
Ruud Van Nistelrooy signed from PSV in July 2001 for a well worth £19 million and he repaid the club back with his exhilarating performances during his first season at the club. He was the second top scorer in the premiership with a total of twenty three goals and he also scored ten goals in the Champions league, not bad for a debut season. His brilliant performances earned him the honor of PFA player of the year of 2002.
Van Nistlerooy averaged over a goal in every other match for United. In his 212 appearances at the club he has scored a total of 150 goals. In the summer of 2006, he moved to Real Madrid.

Paul Scholes
Club – Manchester United
Scholes made his first appearance for Manchester United in September 1994 and has made a huge impact ever since appearing in the first team side. He was a key member of their treble winning side of 1999. He was in inspirational form in the champion’s league of the 1998-99 season, throughout the tournament he played exceptionally well especially in their semi final tie against Juventus. Scholes has won 6 premiership titles with Manchester United, his goals certainly helping them to success. Scholes is also an England international having participated in the 1998 world cup finals, European Championships of 2000 and 2004 and the 2002 world cup.
