In the opening minute of the match, Clayton Blackmore scored with a powerful, low free kick from outside the area to make it 1-0. With two minutes left of the first half, Danny Wallace dribbled into the area and cut the ball back for Mark Hughes to score and make it 2-0. On the stroke of half time, Lee Sharpe scored brilliant strike to make it 3-0 to Manchester united. Arsenal came back early on in the second half as Michael Thomas smashed in a shot into the net which flew past keeper Les Sealey. Alan Smith scored Arsenals second mid way through the half as he poked the ball home after a corner. With 15 minutes left Manchester United took control again as Lee Sharpe headed the ball into the net to score his second of the night. With ten minutes left, Lee Sharpe completed his hat trick and Manchester united went 5-2 up.
