Oldham 3-3 Manchester United (FA Cup Semi Final)
Date Played: May 1990
The tiny industrial town of Oldham Athletic was stunned by football fever. Managed by Joe Royle, the Lactics had just reached the league cup final and were also in contention for promotion. Manchester United was in the mid stages of a poor season and victory was essential for Alex Ferguson’s men as the winner found a passage to the final.
Oldham began the better and just after five minutes, Bryan Robson failed to clear a cross from Rick Holden and the ball bounced off Jim Leighton’s chest for Earl Barrett to put Oldham ahead. Near the half hour mark, Robson sprinted onto a pass from Neil Webb and smashed home past Hallworth’s left hand. Chances came and went for both sides and with 20 minutes remaining, Danny Wallace replaced the weary Bryan Robson. Immediately after, Wallace miscued a cross with his opening touch of the ball and the ball rebounded off the top of Neil Webb’s head and into the back of the net. Oldham immediately answered as Ian Marshall smashed a volley into the back of the net. During extra time, Wallace was a nightmare for the Oldham defense and when Brian McClair’s great through ball sprung Oldham’s offside trap, Wallace made no mistake to hand United the lead. However the drama was not over as Oldham substitute, Roger Palmer was on hand to force a re match after fantastic work from Milligan had carved an opening down the left flank which Ian Marshall grabbed.

Manchester United 3-3 Crystal Palace
FA Cup Final - 1990
United eventually won the 1990 FA Cup final, however here is how they arrived to the replay. After 20 minutes of play, Gary O’Reilly scores the opening vital goal for Palace as he beats both Steve Bruce and Jim Leighton to make it 1-0 to Palace. With only 10 minutes of the half remaining, Danny Wallace played the ball out to Brain McClair on the right; his first time centre to the far post is headed down by Bryan Robson. Palace then went on to concede as unlucky goal, as Neil Webb slid a fine pass to Mark Hughes who scored and gave United a 2-1 lead. With only 17 minutes remaining, Ian Wright scored one of the greatest FA Cup goals of all time to sail Palace back on level terms. Immediately into extra time, John Solako crossed a fine ball to Ian Wright who volleyed Crystal Palace back into the lead. However with character, united came back, and with seven minutes remaining, Danny Wallace slipped a neat ball through to Hughes who ran left to right into the penalty area, Hughes smashed the ball into the back of the net, to force the final to a replay, which United won 1-0.
